Riggs Park is a residential neighborhood in northern DC that is increasingly popular for it’s affordability and semi-detached and detached homes. It is the only DC neighborhood that borders both Montgomery County and Prince George’s County, Maryland. Riggs Park straddles the border of Northeast and Northwest DC. Its boundaries are Van Buren St NW to the north, Eastern Ave NE and Takoma Park & Chillum, Maryland, to the east, Galloway St NE and Fort Circle Parks to the south, and the Metro Red Line, Riggs Rd NE, North Capitol St NE, and Blair Rd NW to the west.

New developments opened in 2016 and 2017 that will continue to bring amenities and retail offerings to the neighborhood. Fort Totten Square on the corner of Riggs Rd and South Dakota Ave houses a Walmart and Culture Coffee Too, the neighborhood coffeehouse. Art Place on South Dakota Ave and Galloway St will offer 300,000+ square feet of retail space including 24-hour gym XSport Fitness Center and Explore! Children’s Museum. Three Stars Brewing is located in the northern end of Riggs Park along with Hellbender Brewery toward the southern end of the neighborhood. Nearby neighbors Takoma, DC, and Takoma Park, Maryland, to the north and Brookland to the south provide a variety of shopping and dining choices. Lamond Playground and Riggs Road Playground offer recreation for children. The 8-mile Metropolitan Branch Trail for bikers, joggers, and walkers will eventually run along the western side of Riggs Park, connecting Silver Spring, Maryland with the National Mall.

The city has invested $10 million in infrastructure and safety improvements for both pedestrians and drivers. The Fort Totten metro station serves Riggs Park, where the Red, Yellow, and Green Lines intersect. Just north of Riggs Park is the Takoma station on the Red Line. There are Metrobus lines that run through the neighborhood as well. North Capitol St and New Hampshire Avenue provide thoroughfares into downtown DC. New Hampshire Ave also offers a route out to the Maryland suburbs and the Capital Beltway, just four miles away.
